Your Questions – Our Answers

What you need to know as a Plant Operator

What is FAG SmartCheck?

FAG SmartCheck is an independently operating, compact, modular measuring system for continuously monitoring machines. Since FAG SmartCheck can monitor traditional and vibration-based parameters, it already offers numerous possibilities today that will be regarded as indispensable for machine monitoring tomorrow. This results in optimization and added value along the entire process chain.

Why should I opt for FAG SmartCheck?

FAG SmartCheck makes a valuable contribution towards optimizing processes and reducing lifecycle costs (LCC) and the total cost of ownership (TCO).

With FAG SmartCheck, you profit from clear benefits when running your systems:

• Dependable and safe machine monitoring. Innovative vibration sensor with excellent diagnosis technology.
• Simple installation, simple assembly, simple initial operation, little wiring work required, easy to integrate thanks to its compact size.
• Intuitive operating concept, automatic alarm threshold adaptation by means of a self-learning mode (plug-and-play option), LED error display.
• Intelligent process monitoring. Records various process parameters and correlation with vibration signals.
• Long-term storage of recorded data. The information is available for a long period of time. An intelligent data reduction algorithm ensures long-term storage in memory.
• Flexible and customizable. Not only can the system be individually adapted, but it can also be expanded using sensors.
• Schaeffler’s complete service package for comprehensive machine diagnostics and rolling bearings Consultation, initial operation, remote service, training, rolling bearing solutions, and much more

How does FAG SmartCheck help me?

FAG SmartCheck provides dependable early detection of possible damage to machines and helps to avoid unplanned downtimes and prevent expensive consequential damages.

For example: Rolling bearing damage, unbalance, or misalignment. Analyzing the data recorded by FAG SmartCheck helps in detecting cavitation, winding damage, and pending unbalance between the drum and screw.

The following can be monitored:
- Electric motors
- Gearboxes
- Vacuum and liquid pumps
- Fans and blowers
- Gearboxes, compressors
- Spindles and machine tools
- Separators and decanters

How is FAG SmartCheck installed?

FAG SmartCheck is very easy to install on the unit that is to be monitored and is immediately ready for use (link to tutorials). Even in its delivery state, it has parameter presets enabling general, dependable monitoring.

Moreover, other predefined parameter presets for monitoring pumps, blowers, gear ranges, etc. are available. The integrated bearing database can be accessed when using the parameter presets. The presets can be easily adapted to the specific monitoring tasks with the aid of assistants.

If requested by the customer, Schaeffler will add user-specific parameter presets and make them available to the user.

How does FAG SmartCheck work?

The alarm threshold is adjusted automatically by means of an autonomous learning mode. When initial operation is completed, FAG SmartCheck operates independently. The relevant machine parameters are recorded and saved to the system. In this way, a considerable amount of data history is collected over time that helps with monitoring the condition of the machine at all times.

How is the data read out from FAG SmartCheck?

A standard Internet browser can be used to access the FAG SmartCheck web server for configuring it and displaying the current data. The recorded data can be read out directly and conveniently via an Ethernet interface on FAG SmartCheck and with the aid of corresponding analysis software.

How and where can I call up the data from FAG SmartCheck?

The recorded data can be read out locally at the machine or transferred to a control system via TCP/IP or to a control station. It is also possible to access and analyze the data from separate locations using a remote connection.

How can I expand my Condition Monitoring system if I need to?

You can expand the monitoring options of FAG SmartCheck further with the corresponding accessories:

• FAG SmartConnect Box and FAG SmartLamp: These allow up to four FAG SmartChecks on one unit to be supplied with voltage and input signals. This also provides a direct connection for FAG SmartLamp, which displays the alarm status in a stacked format.

• FAG SmartController: FAG SmartController can be used if a larger number of FAG SmartCheck devices is required. With it, up to 25 FAG SmartCheck devices can be hooked up to one monitoring system. The condition of the systems can be shown via a display linked to FAG SmartController. You can find more information on accessories in the product brochure in the “Service & Support” download area.
